Lavender Residence - my home in Turkey

So having explained how I ended up in Turkey, maybe I should tell you more about where I am.  My apartment is on Lavender Residence, a very modern, luxury complex of 28 apartments; either one bed/bath or two bed/bath, with 4 five en suite bedroom villas with their own pools and gardens next door.  This might start to sound like a sales pitch but it really is a fabulous complex for me!  One friend has visited so far and also fell in love with it and the family atmosphere we have here.  Although she only came out for a holiday with no thoughts of buying, now she is hoping to buy one of the apartments for her retirement.

The complex is located a short distance from Kusadasi centre, on a steep hill on the side of a gorge, named Pine Valley, on the southern outskirts of a rural village, Sogucak which is actually pronounced Sojak with a soft 'j' as in 'jus'.  Although it's on a steep hill, the complex has been cleverly located to be easily accessible for all with slopes and steps all around.
As well as the apartments we have a long outdoor pool, an indoor pool, small gym, hammam (Turkish Bath), children's playground, barbecue area, hobby garden to grow vegetables and fruit, ample parking for cars, cctv throughout, a small 'mini market' and a restaurant.  Panorama Restaurant and cafe is at the top of the site and, being surrounded by glass walls which are opened in summer, has fabulous panoramic views of the national park and across the sea to the Greek island of Samos.  Meals are served inside or outside in the garden and for those wanting a drink in a less formal setting there is relaxing garden furniture to the side. The restaurant is popular with locals as well as residents and guests for dinner or lunch and it is always busy serving Turkish breakfast at the weekends.

Properties at Lavender Residence complex are available to rent for holidays or to purchase as a holiday home and/or investment property.  Some of the owners keep the apartments exclusively for their own use and others have them as an investment property, renting out to holiday makers in the summer through the management company and getting a guaranteed  return on their investment.  My original thoughts were to spend most of the winter months here in Kusadasi where, even though they have a winter, it is mainly more like spring or autumn in the UK and even when it's cold, the sun is generally shining and warm.  So, I entered in to a renewable 2 year agreement with the management company where they rent it out to holiday makers during the summer six months and I use it mid October to mid April. More of my current thoughts later.

Back to Lavender Residence!  My apartment is on the middle floor of the upper block, next to the central stairs leading to the outdoor pool.  The lounge wall overlooking the pool is full height and width sliding doors and has fabulous views to the other side of the valley and across the sea to Samos.  The rear of the lounge has a kitchen area, fully equipped with fridge, freezer, hob, built in oven and microwave and the all important dishwasher.  The washing machine and boiler are in cupboards next to the wardrobe in my bedroom, which also overlooks the pool.  It seemed a strange place to have a washing machine in a bedroom but then my en suite shower room is behind so it makes sense from a plumbing point of view.  Behind my en suite is the guest bedroom and the house bathroom is opposite, behind the kitchen.  To the side of the lounge is a large outside terrace, sheltered overhead by the upper apartment.  In the summer months, it makes it a great outdoor space to eat or read without being in the full glare of the sun.  Some of the owners have had this area converted in to a conservatory with glass panels that can be slid back to make it open air.  I might consider this in the future.  For now, I'm more than happy with my apartment as it is and the fabulous views I have, particularly the sunsets!
