Anneler günün kutlu olsun (Happy Mother's Day)




Today in Turkey it is Mother's Day.  So that I wasn't left out, the two little boys who live next door, presented me with a lovely potted plant.  
                 

Last night the eldest boy treated us to a mini concert, where he drummed along to a selection of tunes.  His relatives, who live in Izmir, joined by video call.

Manchester to Izmir

I had intended to continue my blogs whilst back in the UK but as I did very little, didn't see the point. Initially I did, on limited occasions, meet family or friends but then Calderdale, where my UK house is, was put on local restrictions so I no longer met with anyone.  I went shopping and for walks and that was it.  I still can't see my son or dad so what is the point of staying in the UK?  Plus, I got so incensed with 'deniers' who think it's all a scam and won't wear masks or social distance. I actually had a 'do' with one outside Sainsburys which I posted about on my personal Facebook page. Dolmus - the Turkish mini-bus

When I visited Turkey for the first time in 2004, the holiday reps in Olu Deniz told us about the dolmus with stories of them being old and battered, fitted with kitchen chairs strapped to the side to offer additional seating, everyone crammed in regardless of numbers and don't be surprised if someone gets on with a goat or hens.  Oh, and you get on sit down and pass your fare along the other passengers to the driver.   Whilst I didn't see any goats, hens or other animals on a dolmus, they were a bit old and battered and I once had to sit on a cushion placed on a wheel arch as a seat. On my return to Olu Deniz the following year, the old dolmus had been replaced with very modern, white mini-buses with automatic opening doors in the middle, proper seats, buzzers to request a stop and a limit on the number of passengers. Two weeks later

It's now two weeks since we had the 'big' earthquake.  Aftershocks continue; there have now been over 3,000 although most are low magnitude, apparently.  I say apparently, as my neighbours on the complex say they aren't feeling them but I'm regularly feeling 'wobbles' which I've put down to my balance problem.  It starts to settle but then a strong aftershock, which I don't notice, sets it off again!   In the main the shocks, whilst generally of low magnitude, are now also happening further away like ripples in a stream.  Occasionally there is the odd bigger one, although not as big as the first one.   For nearly two weeks, I hadn't ventured any further than the shopping centre, just in case!
